VMware recently released Log Insight 2.0 which is a really powerful and easy to use analytics engine for logs and other unstructured data. If you haven’t tried out Log Insight yet, I recommend that you give it a shot. I use Log Insight in my homelab and was previously on the 1.5 version, so I thought why not upgrade and try out some of the new features – maybe i will find some really cool stuff and make a blogpost on it.
But this post is really about the upgrade of Log Insight. If only all products were THAT easy to upgrade…
There is some prerequisites before you should proceed with the upgrade process.
- Only the 1.5 GA version can be upgraded to 2.0 GA. If you are running an older version you need to upgrade it to 1.5 GA before upgrading to 2.0 GA.
- Take a backup or snapshot of the Log Insight appliance before you start the upgrade process.
- Get the latest .pak file from vmware.com
- Read the release notes here
Now you are ready. Log in to Log Insight and click Gear icon top right. Choose Administration.
Choose Appliance on the left side under management. Click on the Upload PAK icon.
Browse to your Log Insight 2.0 PAK file and click open.
Remembered to backup or snapshot the appliance? If yes then click upgrade.
Wait for it.
Accept the EULA after reading it through…
You need to reauthenticate.
If you see this, then you are done.
Just to verify – you can check the installed version on the appliance.
